Wildlife and Habitat Assessment

A growing number of landowners have a desire to manage their property for wildlife and recreational purposes. Assessment of existing wildlife populations and current habitat quality is generally the first step for landowners. This procedure can also be a very important consideration for those considering the purchase of a particular property.

Once the current habitat condition is evaluated, the assessment of potential wildlife and habitat improvements can be explored. Some wildlife species can be managed simultaneously while others present diverging obstacles to overcome.

The restrictions that limit a particular wildlife species are called “limiting factors”. Once the limiting factors are determined, a plan can be designed and implemented to increase the capacity for the desired wildlife species.
